Cara moglie, ti vedo ancora entrare e uscire di casa, in questi ultimi tuoi giorni qui a Bisceglie. Peccato, che tu non puoi vedermi! Quanto vorrei prenderti in disparte, un minuto solo, e dirti come sono andate le cose, quanto siano false e malvagie le persone che ti stanno intorno: tuo padre Alessandro VI, che ti ha messo al mondo nonostante fosse un Papa, e soprattutto tuo fratello, Cesare. C’è lui dietro la mia morte, è lui che ha mandato un sicario, Michelotto da Corella, dopo averti fatto allontanare con un pretesto da palazzo. E c’era lui anche dietro l’agguato che mi hanno fatto a luglio! Sai cosa disse, quando gli riferirono che ero ancora vivo? “Ciò che non è stato fatto a pranzo, può essere benissimo compiuto a cena!" E io all’ora di cena lo aspetto, qui, ormai fantasma, tutte le sere. Aspetto senza fretta che venga con i suoi amici francesi, che lo spinsero a uccidermi. E intanto monta la mia rabbia, e pregusto la vendetta!
